2007: Begins his saloon car racing career racing for Renault Aftersales Racing in the ELF Renault Clio Cup. A strong rookie year ends very positively with a 4th and 9th placed finishes to round off the season in an encouraging 13th place overall. Looking to build on the experiences gained from 2007 with podiums as the target for 2008.
2006: Enjoys numerous success at home and on the continent after graduating to the Rotax Max (senior) class. He wins the televised Irish Open Championship and also the Ulster Cup Winter Series Championship. Smith also shows extremely well when he takes part in a couple of rounds of the Euro Max Challenge
2005: Moves up the karting ladder in to the Junior Max class in Northern Ireland and the JICA class in the Republic of Ireland. Smith finishes 2nd in the Junior Max Ulster Championship and wins the JICA Irish Club Kart Championship. He also wins the JICA ‘Race of Champions’ event
2004: Kicks off his karting career by joining the Mini Max category in his homeland. He contests two championships during the year, finishing 2nd in the Motorsport Ireland Championship and 3rd in the Ulster Cup. He also finishes 2nd in the Ulster GP meeting and is voted ‘best newcomer’ by the Ulster Kart Club
